TECHAGE RECOMMENDS WINDOWS 10


Windows 10, Microsoft’s new operating system has gotten rave reviews. It brings back the ease of use of Windows 7 and older Windows versions while keeping all of the great new features of Windows 8. We think you’ll like Windows 10. Of course, TechAge will be there to help you make the most of this great operating system in our Windows 10 classes.


ABOUT TechAge CLASSES

All TechAge classes are small with a maximum of 10 students, one Instructor and up to three coaches to help students master the content. Students use individual PCs and free help sessions are available from noon - 2 pm weekdays.


HOW TO REGISTER


The JCC now takes all registrations and payments for TechAge classes. You can now register:


• BY PHONE: Call the JCC main desk at 461-2000.
• IN PERSON: Stop by the JCC main desk anytime the JCC is open.
• ONLINE: Go to JCC - TechAge online registrations.

TechAge volunteers are available to answer your questions about classes - either by phone (461-2000 x463) or by stopping by in person. The Information Desk is staffed from noon - 2 pm every weekday.

GET COMFORTABLE WITH WINDOWS 10


New to Windows 10 or need a refresher? You will learn the essential skills to get the most from your computer. Learn how to use and customize the Start menu and Taskbar, use free word processing tools, and search using the Cortana voice assistant. Learn how to access the Internet and use email. Get familiar with standard apps on your computer and download others from the Microsoft App Store, and much more.

GET ORGANIZED - FILE MANAGEMENT


Learn to organize your PC’s “electronic filing cabinet”, create an efficient filing system and save files and folders so you can find them later. You will also learn how to create, move, search for, delete and protect your files and folders and to organize your e-mails and Internet “Favorites”. Course taught with Windows 10 but applicable to both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

COMPUTER AND INTERNET SAFETY


Hackers want to steal your money and your personal information. In this class, you will learn about the threats on the Internet and in email and learn how to protect yourself. Course taught on a Windows computer, but applicable to any computer.

BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER


Hard drives fail, computers get hacked. We now store our family photos and other irreplaceable documents on our PCs. This class will show you how to protect your important files with simple backup techniques. Course taught on a Windows computer, but applicable to any computer.

USING GMAIL AND GOOGLE APPS


Experts say that Gmail is the best free email service. In this class, you will find out why Gmail is for you, how to switch to it, set up your account and use it. Already using Gmail, you'll learn how to take advantage of its many useful features. You will also learn to use many of the free Google Apps that come along with your Gmail account. Course taught on a Windows computer, but applicable to any computer.

USING MICROSOFT EXCEL


Learn the basics of creating simple spreadsheets to organize, calculate and display data. These spreadsheets can be used to create and analyze household budgets, financial portfolios, address lists and endless other practical applications. Skills learned apply to all recent versions of Microsoft Excel. Course taught on a Windows computer, but applicable to any computer.
Prerequisite: Basic computer skills. A USB flash drive is required for this class.

Get started on documenting your family history in this 2-lesson class with step-by-step instructions. Learn to use the free FamilySearch.org web site to create your family tree and discover more about your family.
